There is a growing popularity in quilts. Quilting originated in Wales, but it was the Americans who made it so popular, particularly the Amish folk of Pennsylvania who make such beautiful quilts. My first attempt at quilting shown here is double bed size and took me a whole season to complete, but I so enjoyed making it and would work at it between serving customers at events. I would suddenly become aware I had an audience and many ladies would ask me questions about my patchwork. These 2" hexagon pieces were from reproduced Victorian fabrics. This might be classed as a charm quilt except that it uses the same fabric several times, whereas charm quilts were made from hundreds of pieces of different design fabrics, as per the 1930s quilt shown below.

I have backed my quilt with calico and it has a very thin wadding. The quilt is entirely hand stitched and I dread to think how many hours work were involved (a lot!). I'm now working on a Log Cabin design quilt, here's a pillowcase I made to try out the technique:
